Julian Marshall is a composer and songwriter with an astonishing and diverse career covering many decades and multiple genres of music. Widely known for his contributions to both contemporary classical music and popular songwriting, Marshall’s notable achievements include co-founding the 1970s pop group Marshall Hain, which produced the hit single “Dancing in the City,” as well as writing a range of works from choral pieces to orchestral scores, often exploring profound emotional and spiritual themes.
For his compelling and bold new EP Julian Marshall moves in another direction again, collaborating with Addi P, a truly versatile singer-songwriter, producer, and creative facilitator. Addi P has been expressing herself through poetry, short stories, and songs since childhood, her storytelling ranging from the philosophical to the everyday, and always fascinated by the potential of rhyme. She creates a rhythmic world with her lyricism, treating lyrics and voice as integral instruments, and using her music to to bring clarity and healing, revealing subconscious feelings and emotions that demand exploration.
Addi P
Addi P is a singer-songwriter, producer and creative facilitator. Through her unique blend of philosophical hip-hop and soulful jazz, she isn’t bound by genre. She receives regular airplay on BBC Music Introducing London, and her single ‘Not Finished Yet’ gained a featured spot on the Robert Elms show. Addi P has performed throughout the UK and Europe, highlights including SoFar Sounds Madrid, the O2 Academy Islington and Upstairs at the Ritzy. Festivals include Green Gathering and HowTheLightGetsIn Festival.

From the internationally successful bands Marshall Hain, The Flying Lizards and Eye to Eye, through to work for the concert hall, film and the theatre, Julian’s songwriting and composing output, today, remains as central to his creative life as ever.
The EP, One Bright Pearl, sees a return to both collaborative songwriting (with songwriter/performer Addi P) and instrumentals that reflect a more of a filmic, groove-based style or writing.
Julian is Associate Professor of Composition and a Teaching Fellow at ICMP (London), and also runs a flourishing private creative coaching practice.
